Advanced theoretical and practical course vitrification of oocytes, embryos and ovarian tissue 2024

The purpose of the course is to provide an in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of a technique that has become essential in the field of assisted reproduction: the cryopreservation of gametes and embryos.

Thanks to current vitrification methods, which allow for the almost complete recovery of cryopreserved embryos, a new operational strategy has been developed

- The "Freeze-all strategy."

Specifically, the course will thoroughly illustrate and analyze the different cryopreservation strategies and their applications, which currently allow for the preservation of:

 1) supernumerary embryos, increasing the success rates of assisted reproduction per ovarian stimulation cycle;
2) female and male fertility in patients who wish to postpone their attempts at pregnancy to an advanced reproductive age or in oncological patients who need to undergo gonadotoxic therapies;
3) gametes and embryos for heterologous fertilization and, in contexts where it is permitted, for embryo donation.

The course focuses on the central role that embryo cryopreservation is playing today within the clinical embryology laboratory and in assisted reproduction. In fact, thanks to the high efficiency of current vitrification methods, which allow for the almost complete recovery of cryopreserved embryos, a new operational strategy has been developed, known as the "freeze-all strategy."

This strategy allows for the postponement of cryopreserved embryo transfer to a later cycle than the stimulation cycle, in order to meet better conditions for the patient's endometrial receptivity than those present in a stimulated cycle.
